There are generally three reasons why tile looks dull:

• The tile's finish has worn away.
  • Tiny scratches on the surface can dull tile.
• An incorrect sealer (topicals) has been applied to the tile.
  • Topicals are products that leave a film on tile. These types of product have their place and we have found that most DIYers get themselves in trouble when using topicals and clients in the long run, have them removed.
• The tile wasn't wiped properly after installation.
  • Certain grouts can leave what is called a grout haze after installation. And if the tile installer hadn't clean properly, it is not easy to remove.

About 95% of the time, YES!

We are very confident to say, for most jobs, about 95% of the time, tile can be repaired and color does come back as long as the right repair is used.

But you should know, tile can be permanently damaged:

• Tile, if not sealed or properly cared for, will stain. Grout being the #1 reason home owners call us, is a much bigger problem.
• Installation materials, like silicones can leave marks too.

Secrete #1 - Vacuum your tile floors before using liquid base cleaners and a mopping system.

• Vacuum's suck up dirt and dust from low areas on a floor where mopping system can't access.
• Mopping with liquid cleaners, even a Swiffer, can pick up dirt but also moves dirt into low recesses like grout joints. This can add to soil building up in low areas which can make it harder for you to clean next time.

Tip #1 - Old school cleaners are hurting your stone, tile and grout.

• Vinegar will burn marble and etch its finish.
• Bleach, for some stones, can remove its sheen.
• Ajax and Comet can stain your tile's grout green.
• Toilet bowl cleaners are known to eat stone and tile & grout.
• All-purpose cleaners are not really all-purpose anymore.

Note: Modern products are meticulously designed to fulfill specific tasks. For instance, the soap utilized in dishwashers is engineered to effectively clean our dishes within that particular machine. It is distinct from the soap we employ for handwashing. Consider the various types of soaps we utilize in the shower alone. Each of them is formulated with unique characteristics, highlighting the fact that not all soaps are created equal.

Tip #2 - It is advisable to provide your house cleaners with dedicated stone, tile, and grout cleaning products for those specific areas. The use of incorrect cleaning products can have several adverse effects, including:

• Etching Stone: Certain products can remove the surface sheen of the stone, resulting in etching.
• Bleaching Stone: Improper cleaning agents may cause the stone to lose its natural color and appear whitened.
• Stripping Grout Properties: Some cleaning products have the potential to strip away tile and grout sealers, compromising their protective properties.
• To ensure the longevity and beauty of your surfaces, it is essential to utilize the appropriate cleaning products for each specific material.
